Collection: Letterpress de Paris stationery
Letterpress is the old English name for an old printing technique: typography. This process, which dates back to Gutenberg, consists of pressing paper onto an inked assembly of lead or wooden type, or onto an engraved plate used as a stamp. Gradually modernised, thanks in particular to the mechanisation of presses, typography remained the most widespread printing technique for five centuries before being supplanted by offset printing and then largely abandoned from the 1980s onward with the rise of digital technologies.
Letterpress is sought after today by lovers of fine stationery because it is unique in offering two particular qualities: Direct tonal printing gives colours a unique brilliance. Above all, the force of the press allows the impressions to be etched into the paper, creating spectacular textural effects when the paper is soft and very thick. Letterpress de Paris have chosen to maintain the tradition of letterpress printing in order to better reinterpret it. Surrounded by artists — graphic designers, illustrators, press cartoonists, graffiti artists, comic book artists — Letterpress de Paris want to show how old printing presses can also be excellent tools for contemporary creation.
Letterpress de Paris do all their printing in the 20th arrondissement of Paris and are lead by its two founders: Jean-Frédéric Pouvatchy and Pascal working with many talented artists.
